Water on a dining table, a few stems from the garden, wooden spoons beside the hob, pens in a study; the right vessel makes even the most ordinary act of keeping things feel considered. Our jugs and jars span the full range of domestic life, from generous glazed stoneware pitchers that belong at the centre of a table to smaller, finer pieces suited to flowers or a bathroom shelf. Many are beautiful enough to be displayed without anything in them at all, the shape and glaze doing the work on their own.
